Key battles: India v Sri Lanka
Chaminda Vaas v Sachin Tendulkar
Tendulkar has scored more World Cup runs then anyone in the history of the tournament - 1,533.
Vaas has enjoyed an exceptional World Cup to date, taking 16 wickets. That makes him the tournament's joint leading wicket-taker along with Vaspert Drakes of the West Indies.
Tendulkar achieved another milestone when he scored 98 against Pakistan, becoming the only man to pass 12,000 one-day runs.
Although he recorded superb figures of six for 25 against Bangladesh at this World Cup, Vaas's best one-day figures are a record eight for 19 made against Zimbabwe in 2001.
Tendulkar has faced Sri Lanka four times in World Cups and made 136 in 1996.
Vaas has taken the scalp of Tendulkar seven times in the 40 matches he has played against India .
Javagal Srinath v Sanath Jayasuriya
Jayasuriya is one of the World Cup's leading all-rounders having taken 15 wickets and scored 647 runs.
Srinath has taken 38 World Cup wickets. The paceman recorded his best tournament figures in the opener against Holland, when he took four for 30.
Jayasuriya is 85 away from reaching the magical 9,000 run mark in one-day cricket. Only team-mate Aravinda de Silva and India's Mohammed Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar have scored more.
Srinath is a veteran of four World Cups and has played 30 matches. He will need to play another nine matches to pass Wasim Akram's record of 38 matches.
From the seven World Cup matches he has played as captain, Jayasuriya has won the toss on five occasions.
Srinath has faced Sri Lanka in the World Cup three times and has taken the wicket of Jayasuriya once.
