India v NZ: over-by-over

Result: India 150-3 (40.4 overs) beat New Zealand 146 all out (45.1 overs) by seven wickets

India have beaten New Zealand comfortably to seriously dent the Black Caps' chances of making it to the World Cup semi-finals.

India, chasing 147 to win, were 21 for three at one stage but brilliant batting by Rahul Dravid (53) and Mohammad Kaif (68) saw them home.

41st over: Kaif hits the winning runs with back-to-back fours.

40th over: A maiden over from Harris but it appears he is just delaying the inevitable.

39th over: Dravid hits a four to secure his 44th one-day 50.

38th over: Harris concedes just two runs from the over but India are closing in on the win.

37th over: New Zealand are continuing to go through the fielding motions but have all but given up.

36th over: Dravid hits two consecutive perfect on-drives to the boundary.

35th over: India patiently notch up the runs required.

34th over: New Zealand try spinner Chris Harris out and Dravid smashes a four to bring up the hundred partnership.

33rd over: Kaif and Dravid nudge ever nearer their century partnership but Dravid is nearly run out in the process but manages to get in before McCullum whips off the bails.

32nd over: A deserved half-century is notched up by Kaif in style as he caresses the ball for four with a cover drive. His first 50 of the tournament.

31st over: Kaif comes close to his 50 when he whips a rising Styris delivery to square leg but he gets just one run.

30th over: Tuffey gifts India two further runs with a wide and a no ball. New Zealand's body language suggests they are giving up hope.

29th over: Kaif is now just three runs short of his half-century as he steers Styris wide of Cairns for two runs. India edge past the 100 mark in the process.

28th over: The bulky Tuffey is on for his third spell. He jags the ball back into the batsmen sweetly for his first maiden.

27th over: Vettori shakes his head in dismay as he spins the ball past Kaif's bat without forcing an edge.

26th over: Bond tries to get some bounce out of the pitch to trouble Kaif, but to no avail as three runs are added to the total.

25th over: Vettori is only getting a modicum of turn. Dravid is happy to bide his time and wait for any bad balls.

24th over: Fleming chucks the ball to Bond in a final ploy to force a breakthrough and launch an Indian collapse. He gets a maiden for his efforts.

23rd over: Vettori rattles off his latest over at speed but it fails to deter either Kaif or Dravid.

22nd over: The fireworks of McMillan's first over fail to appear as four runs come off his second effort.

21st over: Dravid and Kaif pinch some singles off Vettori.

20th over: Bizarrely Fleming turns to Craig McMillan's medium pace for the first time in this tournament. It produces a maiden and causes some angry exchanges between McMillan and Kaif. Umpire Peter Willey has a word.

19th over: Vettori 's spin is introduced as India pass the halfway mark in their run chase. An lbw appeal by the Kiwi spinner is rejected before Dravid cuts his last ball for another boundary.

18th over: Tuffey continues to bowl, while Vettori warms up in the outfield. Just two runs are picked up.

17th over: Kaif shows delightful touch for his fifth boundary as he once again finds the narrow gap at cover. The 50-partnership comes up.

16th over: The ball lands painfully wide of Styris off Kaif's bat.

15th over: Dravid shows great vision to slash at Oram and steer the ball over the slip cordon, sending it racing to the boundary rope.

14th over: Tuffey comes into the fray for his second spell but a focused Kaif cuts him for four.

13th over: Kaif lofts Oram into the air over gully but once again the luck goes with him as it lands inconspicuously.

12th over: Bond runs in for his sixth over. He fails to trouble Kaif, who bides his time with defensive strokes before driving a fuller length ball for four.

11th over: Oram pings it in too regularly to the legs of the batsmen, who pick off the singles with ease.

10th over: Bond continues to unleash a series of rapid deliveries. His last ball almost removes Kaif but it just flies over Chris Harris to the boundary.

9th over: Jacob Oram replaces Tuffey with the ball. Fleming comes close to catching Dravid but it just beats the Kiwi captain at gully.

8th over: Bond puts in a little too much effort to a yorker, which turns into a full toss that Dravid steers to the boundary.

7th over: Tuffey concedes just one more run - a solitary wide - before Mohammad Kaif pierces the off-side field for four.

6th over: Brendon McCullum spills an easy chance as Dravid edges Bond. What a miss.

5th over: Tendulkar smashes three successive fours before being caught at point by Oram after attempting number four. Tuffey's first wicket. New batsman Rahul Dravid nearly follows in exactly the same fashion but his shot lands just out of danger.
India 21-3

4th over: Bond pulls off a superb delivery to bowl Ganguly with a yorker, which smacks the Indian captain's off stump.
India 9-2

3rd over: Sourav Ganguly gets off the mark with a single through the gap at cover. Moments later Tuffey comes close to luring Tendulkar into an edge.

2nd over: Sehwag is out with a wayward slash at the final delivery of Shane Bond's over - a good catch by Scott Styris at second slip.
India 4-1

1st over: Daryl Tuffey opens with a wide, while Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag pick off a run apiece.

INNINGS BREAK

46th over: It is all over for New Zealand when eighth bowler Dinesh Mongia claims Tuffey (11) caught and bowled with his first ball.
New Zealand 146 all out

45th over: Srinath is brought back into the attack and concedes just two runs.

44th over: Sehwag clinches a wicket when Oram plays onto his stumps attempting a big shot over mid-on.
New Zealand 144-9

43rd over: Tuffey hits a slack Tendulkar delivery for four.

42nd over: India bring on Sehwag and he too keeps it tight, conceding just three runs.

41st over: Tuffey comes to the crease and immediately hits Tendulkar for four.

40th over: Oram hits his first boundary when he runs down the crease to take Harbhajan on. But Vettori goes for 13 on the final ball of the over when Harbhajan tricks him into a shot which he edges to Ganguly.
New Zealand 129-8

39th over: The scoreboard ticks over slowly as intelligent bowling from Tendulkar prevents the Kiwi batsmen from opening their shoulders.

38th over: Excellent fielding from Nehra stops a shot just before the boundary.

37th over: Another tidy over from Tendulkar keeps Vettori and Oram at bay.

36th over: Harbhajan completes his eighth over and keeps it tight, losing just two singles.

35th over: There are huge cheers from the Indian fans when Tendulkar steps up to bowl for only the second time in this World Cup and concedes just three runs.

34th over: Vettori lofts Harbhajan for four.

33rd over: Good fielding from Yuvraj Singh, who stops what would have been a boundary, and Nehra records a maiden over.

32nd over: Vettori is hit on the back of the leg as he beats the fielder back, ruining a potential run-out chance.

31st over: Ganguly continues to rotate his bowlers and brings back Nehra but Vettori punishes a slack ball with a boundary to bring the hundred up for New Zealand.

30th over: Harbhajan continues his spell and stifles the Kiwi batsmen with a maiden over.

29th over: Khan picks up his fourth wicket to remove the vital scalp of Harris lbw. He then screams for an lbw shout on Vettori for his fifth wicket of the match but his appeal is turned down.
New Zealand 96-7

28th over: Harris tries to punish Harbhajan's bowling with a sweep shot but he fails to connect perfectly and he picks up just one run for his efforts.

27th over: Khan is asked to bowl again. His second ball brings up four leg byes in an otherwise tight display.

26th over: Harbhajan pops up the ball for Cairns, which he unnecessarily wafts at for a simple catch to the man at point, Zaheer Khan.
New Zealand 88-6

25th over: A poor mis-field from Khan halts any thoughts of a run-out attempt and allows Harris and Cairns through for two easy runs.

24th over: A tight over from Harbhajan brings up just one more run to the New Zealand tally.

23rd over: Ganguly comes on to bowl. Sub fielder Agit Agarkar, on for Ashish Nehra, unleashes a strong throw in a bid to run out Cairns, but the Black Caps all-rounder is too quick.

22nd over: Harbhajan Singh is brought into the bowling attack as an alternative. His spin bowling is immediately dismissed for four by Cairns, racing away through extra-cover.

21st over: Tendulkar is thrown back in the field as he successfully stops a massive blast from the bat of Cairns.

20th over: Harris steers Srinath's final delivery through extra-mid-wicket for a much-needed four.

19th over: An unorthodox pull shot from Chris Harris is powered to square leg for four. The Kiwi all-rounder unleashes the shot with both feet off the ground.

18th over: Sachin Tendulkar catches out Stephen Fleming as he skews an attempted pull shot off Srinath to mid-off.
New Zealand 59-5

17th over: Fleming and Cairns make use of some fielding changes by Sourav Ganguly to nudge away a trio of easy runs.

16th over: Fleming produces the first boundary in almost 70 balls as he steers the ball straight back past the bowler for four.

15th over: Chris Cairns gets off the mark off Nehra as he joins Fleming at the crease. The pair bring up the 50 for New Zealand before Cairns is lucky not to be caught after totally mis-timing Nehra's last delivery.

14th over: Khan takes his third wicket - his 100th in one-day international cricket - as he bowls McCullum, smashing his stumps in the process.
New Zealand 47-4

13th over: Nehra's line and length is perfect ball after ball. Fleming has no option but to leave it on three occasions.

12th over: McCullum opens the face of the bat to pick up one run before the ball is collected by the third-man fielder. Another tight over by Nehra.

11th over: New batsman Brendon McCullum gets off the mark by nudging the ball onto the leg side.

10th over: Fleming tries to smash Srinath to the square leg boundary rope, but he mis-times it and the ball stops dead off his bat.

9th over: Nehra strikes, luring Styris into the shot only for the Kiwi batsman to edge the ball into the gloves of Rahul Dravid. A wicket maiden by Nehra.
New Zealand 38-3

8th over: Styris finds a gap through mid-wicket to take his score to 15.

7th over: Ashish Nehra is brought on after Khan is deemed a tad too expensive. A maiden has the desired effect.

6th over: Another good over from Srinath brings another three runs. He has conceded just seven off three overs, in contrast to Khan's 28 off the same number of deliveries.

5th over: Fleming is in fine touch, whipping the ball off the back foot past mid-on for his second boundary. Boundary number three comes after being delightfully steered to fine leg by the Black Caps skipper.

4th over: Srinath pegs New Zealand back nicely, but Fleming and Styris still pick off three well-run singles.

3rd over: Fleming lofts the ball into the air but it lands just wide of two fielders on the leg side. He makes amends with a sublime four through the covers.

2nd over: Javagal Srinath twice beats the bat of Scott Styris but fails to get a telling edge as just one run comes off the over.

1st over: Khan strikes again with his third delivery, trapping Nathan Astle lbw first ball.
