Over-by-over: New Zealand v Canada

New Zealand 197-5 (23 overs) beat Canada 196 all out by five wickets

Scott Styris belts a quick-fire 50 to propel New Zealand to victory in fewer than half of their allocated overs.

The Kiwis must now wait on other results to see if they progress to the Super Sixes.

John Davison was the star for Canada again, smashing 75 runs and taking three wickets.

23rd over: Canada have played with determination throughout this World Cup and they have impressed against New Zealand. But Styris hastens their departure with three booming boundaries to reach his 50. The Kiwis must now wait on other results to see if they progress or go out.

21st over: The 50 partnership between Styris and Harris comes up and Styris celebrates by belting a huge six out of the ground.

20th over: A beautifully placed off-drive from Harris beats the fielder and races to the fence. Davison returns three for 61 in a fine spell.

19th over: The 150 comes up for New Zealand but a disciplined Seebaran ensures no more than five runs are scored in the over.

18th over: Poor fielding at long-on gifts Harris cheap runs with seven coming from Davison's over.

17th over: Just four runs comes off Seebaran's fourth over, the Black Caps seemingly more watchful now after the loss of five wickets.

16th over: Davison goes for seven runs in his eighth over, despite not bowling one poor ball.

15th over: A good over from Seebaran in which both batsmen find it hard to get the left-armer away.

14th over: A huge blow for New Zealand as Cairns picks out Maraj at mid-wicket to fall for 31. Davison picks up his third scalp. New Zealand: 114-5

13th over: Styris drives over wide mid-off for four before sharp running sees eight added in the over.

12th over: The batsmen continue to simple work Davison around, content to wait for easier pickings at the other end.

11th over: Adams perishes to Seebaran for 36, caught by sub fielder Thuraisingam after mistiming a wild drive. New Zealand: 97-4

10th over: A rare loose ball from Davison is dispatched to the fence by Cairns.

9th over: Codrington gets one hand on a full-blooded Cairns drive but the bowler cannot stop a boundary. A leaping Davison at deep mid-wicket then fails to prevent a six.

8th over: More admirably tight bowling from Davison sees three added to the tally.

7th over: Adams launches new bowler Codrington for six over mid-wicket before smacking a full-toss to the long-on fence. He races to 25 off 10 balls with a four to finish the over.

6th over: Everybody catches their breath as a very tidy over from Davison concedes just a single.

5th over: Adams heaves at Patel and is lucky to still be there as his French cut just misses the stumps. He finishes the over with a six over wide mid-wicket.

4th over: Double breakthrough for Davison as Astle is stumped and McMillan is caught after top-edging a wild swing outside off stump. New Zealand: 32-3

3rd over: Astle pulls for four but then survives as Seebaran drops a fairly straightforward chance at mid-off.

2nd over: A big breakthrough for Canada as confusion between the wicket sees Fleming run out at the non-striker's end. New Zealand: 19-1

1st over: McMillan hits three boundaries off Patel's over, giving a clear sign of his intentions.

INNINGS BREAK

47th over: Patel smashes fours off three consecutive Styris deliveries, but goes swinging to a straight one off the final ball of the over. Canada: 196 all out

46th over: Coddrington and Patel prod and scramble their way through another frustrating over for New Zealand.

45th over: Oram completes his final over without claiming the dismissal he needed for a five-wicket haul.

44th over: Patel skies a cut over the slips but just short of third man.

43rd over: Oram finally finds a straight and full one to skittle out Codrington. The Kiwi is now only a wicket away from a "five-for" but is clearly struggling with cramp. Canada: 176-9

42nd over: Canada's Ashish Patel takes two runs off the last delivery of a tidy Adams over.

41st over: Oram returns to bowl his eighth over but struggles. The Kiwi seamer gives up a four, three wides and a no ball.

40th over: Canada take five runs off Vettori's last over, leaving the spinner with figures of no wickets for 34 runs.

39th over: Bond produces a brute of delivery to remove Harris. The Canada skipper is out gloving an express delivery to New Zealand wicketkeeper McCullum. Bond finishes his 10-over spell with three wickets for 29. Canada: 155-8

38th over: More tight bowling from Vettori as Harris can only pick up a single from the Kiwi spinner's over.

37th over: Bond is rewarded with the wicket of Samad, trapped in front for 12. Canada: 152-7

36th over: Samad gets to the pitch of Vettori, driving the spinner through the on-side for four.

35th over: Joe Harris sweeps for three as a sharp piece of fielding by Vettori saves a boundary.

34th over: Samad and Harris take singles off Oram's seventh over.

33rd over: Joe Harris dispatches his namesake through mid-wicket for four.

32nd over: Bagai is bowled by Oram as Canada start to lose their way. Samad's first runs in international cricket come courtesy of a boundary.Canada: 129-6

31st over: Four overthrows gifts Harris five runs for a push through square leg.

30th over: Oram strikes, trapping de Groot lbw for 17. Canada: 123-5

29th over: Harris returns to the attack and does a fine job, conceding just a single.

28th over: Oram is worked around for singles as the batsmen look to consolidate their partnership.

27th over: Bond steams in for his eighth over but bowls too full and is driven through the covers for four.

26th over: Oram is hit down to the long-on fence by Harris after having a good lbw shout turned down.

25th over: Fleming brings his trump card, Bond, back into the attack in clear ploy to knock Canada over. But De Groot pounces, hitting the paceman for successive boundaries.

24th over: A Vettori wide brings up the Canada 100. Canada captain Harris sweeps nicely for four with his first scoring shot.

23rd over: Davison departs for 75 off 62 balls, caught by Cairns at long-off off Harris. Canada: 98-4

22nd over: Vettori and company rise for another lbw appeal for de Groot's scalp but umpire Jayaprakash is having none of it.

21st over: Harris performs equally well at the other end, frustrating Canada with his medium-pacers.

20th over: Davison and de Groot are content to work the miserly Vettori for singles.

19th over: Cairns begins his spell with a tidy over that costs two runs.

18th over: De Groot grapples with Vettori's turn but survives a lbw shout.

17th over: Davison breaks the shackles, turning Styris through square-leg and launching over extra cover for two boundaries.

16th over: Vettori continues to stifle Davison, who is becoming frustrated at his loss of momentum.

15th over: Billcliffe is on his way as Fleming snaps up a chance at short backward point off Styris. Canada: 80-3

14th over: The introduction of Vettori is a calming one for the Black Caps as Davison struggles to punish him with equal ferocity.

13th over: Bond is rested with Styris coming on for his first over. It is a tight one costing one single.

12th over: Another change is made with Vettori coming on for the battered Oram. Billcliffe steers down to third man for three.

11th over: Bond stems the Davison onslaught, conceding one run in a good over.

10th over: Davison hooks Oram high over square leg and twice over mid-wicket for three massive sixes. He brings up his fifty in just 26 balls.

9th over: Billcliffe gets off the mark with a single down to thid man. Davison gets on strike, pulling Bond to the mid-wicket fence.

8th over: Fleming has seen enough of Adams, replacing the expensive all-rounder with Oram. Ifill cuts past point for four but falls next ball, caught behind. Canada: 43-2

7th over: A maiden from Bond as new batsman Ifill finds his feet.

6th over: Davison continues to target Adams, driving him over mid-on and edging wide of slip for successive fours.

5th over: Maraj departs for a duck, trapped back on his crease and given out lbw. Canada: 21-1

4th over: Davison punishes Adams, cutting and driving for two lovely boundaries. He finishes the over emphatically, charging down the pitch and launching a massive six.

3rd over: Maraj struggles to get bat on ball despite Bond often straying to the off-side.

2nd over: Adams is surprisingly given the new ball from the other end. First ball, Davison edges just wide of second slip for a boundary.

1st over: Bond beats the outside edge of Maraj before blotting his copybook with a wide.
