England v Namibia: over by over
Latest: England 272 all out (50 overs) beat Namibia 217-9 (50 overs) by 55 runs


England finally clinch victory against a spirited Namibia, for whom Jan-Berry Burger scored their first ever international half-century.

Burger led Namibia to within sight of one of the biggest World Cup upsets in history but the Namibian was finally captured by Craig White to prompt a collapse.

England were all out for 272 with stand-in captain Alec Stewart making 60 and Marcus Trescothick 58.


50th over: Anderson bowls the final over for England and Caddick misses a run-out opportunity - missing the stumps as Van Vuuren scrambles. But the last man finishes in style with a massive swing which flies beyond the boundary for six.

49th over: Irani finishes by conceding one run.

48th over: Van Schooer and Van Vuuren are intent on staying in to the death and refuse to attack anything. Flintoff finishes his 10 overs with figures of two for 33.

47th over: Namibia's last two are holding England up as Irani toils to no avail. Flintoff returns to the attack.

46th over: Van Vuuren, who took five England wickets, gets off the mark with a slog.

45th over: Irani is on a hat-trick now as he traps Bjorn Kotze lbw with the next ball. But Rudie van Vuuren survives.
Namibia 199-9

45th over: Loud cheers around the ground as Namibia reach 200 but the celebrations do not last long as Sarel Burger departs - edging a catch to Collingwood.

44th over: A yorker from Flintoff has Sarel Burger struggling to dig it out. The England all-rounder celebrates as the bails come off but fails to convince the umpire, who indicates that the bails blew off in the strong wind.

43rd over: Irani hits the stumps but the ball is classed a dead ball after Van Schoor pulls away.

42nd over: Deon Kotze is dispatched back to the pavilion after being bowled by Flintoff for seven.
Namibia: 190-7

41st over: Irani gets the wicket of Murgatroyd when he drags it on to his stumps.
Namibia: 188-6

40th over: White finishes his 10-over spell after taking three wickets. 39th over: Namibia get two runs off the over.

38th over: White gets his second wicket of the over when Gerrie Snyman is bowled first ball.

38th over: Keulder is run out after a good throw from Trescothick. Namibia 174-4

37th over: Keulder smahes Irani for four as he nears a half-century.

36th over: Murgatroyd spanks White for six.

35th over: Ronnie Irani is the sixth England bowler to be brought into the attack and concedes two runs off the over.

34th over: White continues to frustrate the Namibian batsmen

33rd over: Keulder finds the gap to hit Vaughan for four.

32nd over: The runs slow right down with just one off the over.

31st over: Vaughan keeps it tidy conceding just one run.

30th over: Craig White stops Jan-Berry Burger in his tracks with a slower ball which is well taken by Paul Collingwood.

28th over: Jan-Berry Burger smashes another boundary.

27th over: Vaughan appeals for an lbw but it is not given and then Keulder finds the gap for four.

26th over: England looked rattled as they cannot seem to find a way to break the partnership.

24th over: Jan-Berry Burger lofts White for six.

23rd over: Vaughan is brought on to bowl because Blackwell is unable to and the 100 comes up for Namibia, off 143 balls.

22nd over: The 50-partnership comes up for Namibia with a four, which whistles past Andrew Flintoff's head.

21st over: Craig White joins the attack and concedes seven runs off the over.

20th over: Jan-Berry Burger becomes the first Namibian player to score a fifty in a one-day international. He hits the milestone off 52 balls, which includes seven fours.

19th over: Anderson restricts Namibia to three runs from the over. Blackwell has to go off the field with a back spasm and will not be able to bowl.

18th over: An edge by Keulder does not carry to Trescothick in the slips and then he hammers Flintoff for a boundary.

17th over: Anderson is back in the attack and is thumped for four by Jan-Berry Burger.

16th over: Jan-Berry Burger is in good form as he hits Flintoff for four.

15th over: The 50 comes up for Namibia with a boundary as 11 runs are scored off the over.

14th over: Keulder is off the mark with a two.

13th over: A maiden over for Caddick.

12th over: Flintoff joins the attack and immediately catches and bowls Louis Burger for five.
Namibia 42-2.

11th over: Hoggard drops Jan-Berry Burger and then he smashes Caddick for four.

10th over: Jan-Berry Burger's attempt at a four is cut out by Vaughan.

9th over: A maiden over for Caddick.

8th over: Jan-Berry Burger hits a four after being roughed up by Anderson.

7th over: Caddick appeals for an lbw on Louis Burger but umpire Simon Taufel dismisses it.

6th over: Jan-Berry Burger scores a boundary through mid-wicket.

5th over: Caddick's tidy bowling restricts Namibia to one run.

4th over: Anderson claims his first wicket of the game when Swanepoel is caught by Vaughan at short-midwicket.
Namibia 12-1.

3rd over: Swanepoel hits Namibia's first boundary of the match.

2nd over: Anderson opens at the other end and Jan-Berry Burger is finding it difficult to deal with the pace.

1st over: Caddick bowls the first over and Swanepoel struggles to get any bat on the ball but eventually manages to score runs.

INNINGS BREAK

50th over: Andy Caddick goes in the last ball of the innings to give Van Vuuren a memorable moment. The Namibia man is the first for his country to capture a five-wicket haul.

50th over: Van Vuuren makes it four wickets as Irani skies a catch to Namibia captain Deon Kotze.
England 268-9

50th over: White's luck runs out as he attempts a boundary at the death - Sarel Burger makes no mistake with the catch at long-on.
England 264-8

49th over: Luck is on England's side as Jan Berry Burger drops an easy catch off White to spoil Namibia's impressive work in the field. Snyman is less than impressed.

48th over: Ronnie Irani comes in ninth for England and gets off the mark with a well-struck four after White pushes the total past 250.

47th over: Snyman gets his third wicket as Blackwell gives himself room for a big hit but can only flick a thin outside edge to the wicketkeeper.
England 242-7

46th over: England keep the scoreboard ticking over, as both White and Blackwell reach 16.

45th over: Five singles off the over as Sarel Burger does well to keep it relatively tight.

44th over: Blackwell survives despite slicing a full toss straight to the man at backward point. But the umpire signals a no ball with Namibia failing to have the required amount of fielders inside the circle.

42nd over: Craig White is incredibly lucky to survive a run-out after brilliant fielding from David Murgatroyd. Blackwell looks uncomfortable and spoons a catch but Jan-Berry Burger cannot take it.

41st over England lose their second wicket of the over when Flintoff plays a nothing shot and gets a leading edge which is again caught by Keulder.
England 204-6

41st over: Collingwood is out after he is deceived by a slower Snyman ball and is caught at extra cover by Keulder for 38.
England 202-5

40th over: The 200 comes up for England with a huge six from Flintoff.

39th over: Collingwood edges Snyman but there are no slips and it races away for four.

37th over: Deon Kotze finishes his 10-over spell.

36th over: Flintoff launches a huge six down the ground and then survives a caught and bowled chance off Sarel Burger.

35th over: Lively fielding from Namibia, keeps the score at bay.

34th over: Collingwood and Flintoff are not looking too confident but they are keeping the score ticking over.

33rd over: Collingwood is lucky as wicket-keeper Van Schoor fails to catch a looping ball.

32nd over: Stewart is furious with himself as he fails to get hold of a shot and is caught near the boundary by Bjorn Kotze.
England: 159-4

30th over: Stand-in captain Alec Stewart records his 28th one-day international fifty in style with a six.

29th over: Sarel Burger joins the attack to become the seventh Namibian bowler used.

28th over: Kotze keeps it tight as England score two off the over.

27th over: Collingwood dispatches Jan-Berry Burger for four.

26th over: Collingwood comes to the crease.

25th over: Trescothick hits a horror shot off a full toss and is caught by Louis Burger, after making 58.
England: 121-3

24th over: England are moving up a gear.

23rd over: Trescothick records his first fifty of the World Cup, off 63 balls, hitting six fours and a six.

22nd over: The 100 comes up for England as Trescothick makes a streaky single.

21st over: England stand-in captain Alec Stewart nicks a couple of singles.

20th over: Namibia captain Deon Kotze comes into the bowling attack and concedes four runs.

19th over: Stewart smashes two boundaries as he begins to open up his shoulders.

18th over: Stewart times it perfectly to hit Kotze straight down the ground.

17th over: Louis Burger bowls tightly to restrict England but cannot stop a sweet boundary from Trescothick.

16th over: Stewart and Trescothick nick a few singles.

15th over: England keep the score ticking over.

14th over: The 50 comes up for England with a great pull shot from Trescothick which flies to the boundary.

13th over: England are struggling to score runs, with just 11 coming off the last six overs.

12th over: Van Vuuren puts the brakes on England.

11th over: Louis Burger comes into the bowling attack and keeps it tight as England score just three runs.

10th over: Vaughan's innings comes to an end when he lazily attempts a pull shot which is caught by Louis Burger. It is a wicket maiden for Van Vuuren.
England 43-2

9th over: England keep the score ticking over.

8th over: Trescothick risks a single and comfortably makes the run after Kotze fumbles.

7th over: Vaughan comes into bat and is quickly into his stride, placing two fours perfectly.

6th over: Nick Knight is caught by a diving catch from Louis Burger after attempting a pull shot. He made six runs.
England 26-1.

5th over: Trescothick's timing is perfect as he hits Snyman straight down the ground for four.

4th over: Knight gets in on the act too with a sweet four.

3rd over: Trescothick smashes England's first boundary of the day and then follows it up with a six.

2nd over Van Vuuren almost strikes with his first ball which hits the back of Trescothick's bat as he pulls too early, but van Schoor is unable to take the catch diving forward.

1st over: Trescothick is off the mark with a streaky single down to third man off the outside edge.
