Graeme Smith
Graeme Smith
Born: 1/2/81
Team: Western Province
ODI debut: 30/3/02
Past World Cups: -

Left-handed batsman
Right-arm medium pace bowler

Arguably the best young batsman in South Africa, Smith was unlucky to be left out of the original World Cup squad.

He was first in line as replacement, however, when Jonty Rhodes was ruled out of the tournament after breaking his hand in their second match of the competition.

Scored a double century against Bangladesh in only his third Test appearance, and followed that with 151 against Pakistan.

He was unlucky not to register his first one-day international hundred last November when he was run out for 99 in a match against Sri Lanka at Centurion.

Marked his 22nd birthday by skip[pering Western Province to a seven-wicket win over the national side in a warm-up game.
