South Africa v Kenya: over by over

Latest: South Africa 142-0 (21.2 overs) beat Kenya 140 all out (38 overs) by 10 wickets

South Africa raced to an easy target of 141, with openers Herschelle Gibbs (87no) and Gary Kirsten (52no) comfortably amassing the runs.

Earlier the hosts ripped through the Kenyan batting order in 38 overs, with Lance Klusener taking four wickets for just 16 runs and captain Shaun Pollock grabbing two for 15.


22nd over: Gibbs smashes the remaining runs to complete a comfortable day at the office for the co-hosts.

21st over: Kirsten reaches his 44th one-day international half century to take South Africa closer to victory.

20th over: Kirsten nicely turns through though to a vacant square leg for four.

19th over: Kirsten, smashes a nicely-timed shot past point for a boundary.

18th over: The crowd is cheering for Gibbs as he pushes ever closer to an individual century at Potchefstroom.

17th over: Obuya grabs his first maiden to slow down the run-rate for an over

16th over: Gibbs is on fire smashing balls all over the place with two sixes and two fours as South Africa power past the 100-mark.

15th over: Gibbs earns his second six of the match with a great shot smashed to the long on boundary.

14th over Odumbe does well for Kenya by keeping to just one run in this over.

13th over: Collins Obuya does well to hold South Africa to just one run.

12th over: Opener Gibbs and Kirsten are racing to their target with just 71 runs needed.

11th over: Gibbs picks up his first six with an excellent shot pulled over mid wicket.

10th over: Gibbs pulls over mid wicket area with an excellent shot that puts the opening partnership past 50.

9th over: South Africa's openers get off to a storming start after lunch, notching up nine runs.


LUNCH


8th over: South Africa well on target for 141 with eight more runs.

7th over: Kirsten sneaks a single with a push to the man on the boundary at 3rd man.

6th over: Two boundaries from Kirsten pile on the pressure 10 minutes before lunch.

5th over: Gibbs adds two more boundaries as South Africa take command.

4th over: A fine performance from Kenyan opening bowler Collins Obuya earn his a maiden.

3rd over: Gibbs picks up an easy boundary after scooping the ball past Kenyan captain Steve Tikolo at third man.

2nd over: Kirsten turns Odoyo's delivery to behind square leg for his first run.

1st over: Gibbs smashes past a diving mid off for a boundary as he and Gary Kirsten get South Africa's batting under way. South Africa have wasted no time going into bat before lunch.


INNINGS BREAK


38th over: Odoyo plays and misses three times against Ntini before finally being dismissed as Boucher takes the catch as the ball descends from the heavens. Kenya: 140 all out.

37th over: Ongondo's luck runs out as he is deceived by Klusener's slower ball and Kirsten makes no mistake with the catch. Kenya 139-9.

36th over: Pollock dives as Ongondo sends the ball high into the air but the ball eludes him. The South Africa captain then misses an easy chance at slip as Odoyo flails outside the off-stump.

35th over: Ongondo continues to take the attack to South Africa.

34th over: Peter Ongondo makes a defiant stand, clouting Boje for a big six and a four.

33rd over: Klusener claims his third wicket as Martin Suji departs for a duck after clipping an off-cutter into the hands of Pollock. Kenya: 120-8.

32nd over: Boucher misses a catching chance behind the stumps and South Africa pay the price as Odoyo follows up Kenya's first six with a four.

31st over: Odumbe is caught at midwicket by Gibbs. Kenya: 105-6. New batsmen Collins Obuya is then given lbw for a golden duck. Kenya: 105-7

30th over: Odoyo takes a four with a sweep past square leg for a boundary.

29th over: Kenya's batsmen struggle against the South African barrage, taking just two runs.

28th over: Thomas Odoyo drives to long off for a single.

27th over: Odumbe grabs Kenya's solitary single with a leg bye to backward square leg area.

26th over: Another major blow for Kenya as Shah is run out after an excellent throw from Lance Klusener at square leg to Nicky Boje. Kenya: 92-5

25th over: Lance Klusener grabs his first maiden.

24th over: Odumbe lifts Boje's delivery just out of reach of a jumping Jonty Thodes at cover for two.

23rd over: Odumbe turns off the backfoot hit a single to the backward wicket square leg area.

22nd over: Maurice Odumbe drives through the cover area for two runs.

21st over: Shah smashes over the head of mid on to grab another boundary.

20th over: Shah, two runs, on the off side, cuts past point area for two easy runs.

19th over: Shah edges to the third man boundary for a four.

18th over: It is the end for left-hander Modi, who sweeps Nicky Boje's bouncer into the hands of Pollock at short fine leg. Kenya: 62-4

17th over: Some brilliant chasing by Boeta Dippenaar at square leg denies Modi a four.

16th over: Shah plays a nice shot to the leg-side boundary for another four.

15th over: Modi smashes to the third man boundary, where some excellent fielding keeps it to three runs as Kenya reach the 50-mark.

14th over: Beautiful square drive from Shah gives Kenya a third boundary.

13th over: Another change in the attack as powerfully-built swing bowler Charl Langeveldt maintains the pressure on Kenya.

12th over: Shah grabs Kenya's second four of the morning, smashing Jaques Kallis' delivery through the covers.

11th over: Pollock keeps up the pressure as he grabs his second maiden.

10th over: New batsman Hitesh Modi, grabs a single after turning Ntini's delivery to the leg side.

9th over: A big wicket for South Africa as Tikolo is caught after his lofted shot lands safely into the hands of Gary Kirsten waiting at mid on. Kenya: 26-3

8th over: Kenya captain Steve Tikolo narrowly misses being caught after his nicked shot falls short to Kallis in the slips.

7th over: Shah is scoring most of the runs, favouring the mid-on area.

6th over: Shah steals a couple of runs with a smash to mid-on.

5th over: Kenya grab their first boundary with a nice shot past point from Shah.

4th over: Shah is forced to duck out of the way after a bouncer from Makhaya Ntini.

3rd over: A wicket for Pollock. New batsman Brijal Patel caught nicely by the keeper Mark Boucher on the fifth ball of the over. Kenya: 7-2

2nd over: Shah takes a quick single taken, that's the first run off the bat, but Otieno is run out after a brilliant throw from Herschelle Gibbs. Kenya: 4-1.

1st over: An apprehensive start from Kenya as they face intimidating South African captain Shaun Pollock in the opening over.

0730 Kenya win the toss and have elected to bat first.
