Brian Murphy
Brian Murphy
Born: 1/12/76
Team: Mashonaland
ODI debut: 5/4/00
Past World Cups: -

Right-arm leg-spin bowler
Right-handed batsman

Murphy has had a rollercoaster career with more ups and downs than a Big Dipper.

He was plucked from relative obscurity in 2000 when, one after another, Zimbabwe's spinners dropped out of a tour to the West Indies.

And within 18 months he had been elevated to the top job when he was named as the national captain.

But soon the wheel of fortune turned and injury and poor form saw him fall from grace and out of sight.

However, after more than 13 months in the wilderness, Murphy again came from nowhere to claim a place in the World Cup squad.

His form with the bat in domestic cricket helped his chances and he bowled with great economy in Zimbabwe's recent series against Kenya.
