Mills is a useful all-rounder who will be looking to make an impact on the international stage in South Africa.

The Auckland star has not made many appearances for the Black Caps after injury forced him to miss much of the summer of 2001/2002.

But he forced himself back into the reckoning at the end of 2002 and good performances against India secured him his ticket to the World Cup.

He came to the fore in the first-class sphere during the 1998/1999 Shell Cup campaign when he boasted an average of 48.50 and took 20 wickets at 31.10.

In the summer of 2000/2001 he ended the season with 606 runs and was subsequently picked by New Zealand for the Sharjah and Coca-Cola Cups.

His ability to bowl well at the death helped him make the 15 and his handy runs at the bottom of the order also gave him the edge over other contenders.
