Hashan Tillakaratne
Hashan Tillakaratne
Born: 14/07/67
Team: Nondescripts Cricket Club
ODI debut: 27/11/86
Past World Cups: 1992, 1996

Left-handed batsman
Right-arm off-spin bowler

Aravinda de Silva will not be the only old man of the Sri Lanka team, with Tillakaratne set to join him in the batting line-up.

The 35-year-old has been more prolific at Test level, but his one-day experience may help the younger players in the side.

Tillakaratne played in the 1992 Cup and for the 1996 winning side, but featured only once four years ago.

Although he received a recall to the Test side in 2001, it was not until the end of 2002 that he was brought back into the one-day fold.

Many people will see his inclusion as a surprise, but if his cricket wisdom can help the young guns, then the selectors will feel justified in their choice.
