Jayawardene has been a regular member of the Sri Lanka set-up since 1997.

The flamboyant batsman made 66 on his Test debut against India.

The player has since made eight centuries, and one double century against India in 1999.

He has an average of nearly 50 with a tally of over 3,200 runs despite being aged just 25.

At one-day level, Jayawardene appeared at the 1999 World Cup where he was vice-captain.

In 2001, he became the only batsman to score 1000 runs in Tests and one-day internationals.
