Gary Kirsten
Born: 23/11/67
Team: Western Province
ODI debut: 14/12/93
Past World Cups: 1996, 1999

Left-handed batsman
Right-arm off-break bowler

When it comes to dependability and consistency, it is hard to find a better competitor than Kirsten.

The gutsy and tenacious opening batsman has made an invaluable contribution to South African cricket since his debut in 1993/94.

Nobody has matched Kirsten's run tally for the national side in one-day internationals.

And what he lacks in flair, the 35-year-old more than makes up for with a sound technique and ability to up the tempo at will.

He has racked up more than 6,000 runs and possesses a batting average on the right side of 40.

He once hit 188 not out off 159 balls against the United Arab Emirates in 1996 in India which is the highest innings in the World Cup.
