Shoaib Akhtar
Born: 13/8/75
Team: Khan Research Labs
ODI debut: 28/3//98
Past World Cups: 1999

Right-arm fast bowler
Right-handed batsman

Given his blistering pace, talent for showboating and film star good looks, it is no wonder Shoaib is such a huge box office draw in international cricket.

But the strongly-built paceman is more known through the cricketing world for his sheer pace rather than his skill with a cricket ball.

With the introduction of speed guns, the 27-year-old's attempts to break the 100mph barrier have been watched with eager anticipation - he finally reached three figures against New Zealand last year.

The "Rawalpindi Express" made his international debut in the 1997/98 season, but hit the big time with his performances at the 1999 World Cup.

Although a popular player, his obsession with speed has sometimes clouded his performances on the pitch, as have repeated chucking claims.

But Shoaib is still a match-winner in one-day cricket, possessing an awesome average of around 20 and best figures of six for 16.
