A true top-class all-rounder, Kallis is at the heart of the South African set-up and vital to their chances of success on home territory.
Despite a fairly uninspiring start to his international career, the 27-year-old has become one of the world's leading batsmen.
Like his performances in Test matches, he has more than proved his worth in one-day cricket and 1,000 runs in 2002 sees him bearing down on 6,000 runs.
He has a one-day batting average in the mid 40s and will be looking for a first World Cup ton having fallen four runs short against India in 1999.
His bowling figures are also impressive and as well as his mountain of runs in the last calendar year, Kallis also claimed 42 wickets.
It was the second time he achieved the one-day double of 1,000 runs and 40 wickets, after becoming the first man to reach the mark in 2000.
