ODI debut: 24/5/97
Past World Cups: -
Left-arm off-spin bowler
Giles took time to claim a place in the team and almost six years after his debut he has only recently had any pretension to claiming a permanent spot.
That despite being a strong contributor with both bat and ball.
He started out as a fast bowler but had a career change in the early nineties when injury forced him to adapt to spin.
Giles broke into the international squad in 1997 but never played more than three matches in a year until the last 12 months.
That poor return has been largely due to injury since he was selected for a central contract in 2001.
And another injury on the Ashes tour, where he sustained a broken wrist, means he arrives at the World Cup with limited match practice.
