Whittall is a jack of all trades and a key member of the Zimbabwean team.
He is one of the experienced core and has previously captained his country.
He has come in at every position in the order bar nine and 11, but is more commonly seen wielding the willow at number six.
His participation in a third World Cup was cast in doubt last year when he found himself ignored by selectors.
Following the whitewash defeat to England in late 2001 Whittall was jettisoned from the team - only returning to the side 12 months later.
He will have plenty to do with both bat and in his role as the fourth seamer and will want to prove a point as long as his fitness allows.
