Vaughan is a batsman out of the classical mould.
Standing upright at the crease and playing straight and true, his style is perfectly suited to Test cricket and is also beginning to reap reward in the shorter version of the game.
The Lancastrian-born Yorkshire player made a slow and often injury plagued start to international cricket.
But he is now right up to speed as can be seen from his amazing recent Test record of seven centuries in 12 matches.
After a slow start in the one-day game when he scored 56 runs at an average of eight, he has also upped the ante, more than tripling his return in 2002.
And as well as his batting anywhere in the one-day order, he offers his captain an added extra by being able to turn his arm over to good effect.
