Post-competition verdict:

Queally effectively had the tables turned on him following his stunning time trial gold at Sydney 2000.

The Australians, perhaps stung by events at the Olympics, came over to England and showed Queally what it feels like to lose in your own back yard as they won the team sprint title.

A silver medal there was matched in the individual 1km time trial, when it was fellow Team GB rider Chris Hoy that pushed Queally into second place.

Queally took the dual disappointment well and few would be surprised if he came back with gold at Athens in two years' time.
