![]() DOB 13.11.1982 Country Australia Career High Four Olympic golds – 2000 Manchester medals Six golds, one silver |
Post-competition verdict: The Thorpedo set out for a seemingly impossible seven gold medals and it did, in fact, prove just beyond him. Once again the Australian was the class act of the pool and the Games as a whole as he obliterated all his nearest rivals. All bar fellow Australian Matt Welsh that is, who forced Thorpe into the silver medal spot in the 100m backstroke. Welsh is a backstroke specialist, while Thorpe is a relative novice and it will be interesting to see which events he opts to swim in at Athens 2004.
