Post-competition verdict:

Freeman had been due to compete in the individual 400m despite taking a self-imposed exile from the sport after winning Olympic gold.

But she pulled out when it was revealed her husband Sandy Bodecker had been diagnosed with throat cancer.

She eventually opted to compete in the 4x400m relay and, despite looking well off her best on the second leg, came away with gold.

It remains to be seen if the Australian can recapture her best.
