They sent 61 athletes to Malaysia in 1998 and picked up one medal when their rugby sevens team took silver.

Fijiís only world class golfer Vijay Singh (whose first name means victory in Hindi) had a slow start to his career before hitting the heights.

Singh, Masters champion in 2000 and winner of the US PGA in 1998, received no coaching as a child and began his career as a teaching professional in Borneo.
