Guernsey’s team of 35 failed to pick up a medal last time but the island won six medals in the six Games they have participated in since 1958, mainly in shooting events.

Their solitary gold was Adrian Breton’s triumph in pistol shooting in Auckland 1990.

Did you know?
Guernsey will host the Island Games in 2003. The Games, which were started in 1985, bring together athletes from small islands from all parts of the world.

Competitors come from places as diverse as Anglesey and St Helena to take part in 15 different sports.
