Gibraltar sent a team of nine to Malaysia in 1998 but failed to win their first medal. They have competed in nine games since 1958 without success.

The Rock has been represented at the Games since 1958 when three sportsmen took part in athletics and boxing.

The earliest reference to cricket on the Rock came in a military order from the then Governor in June 1800, warning inhabitants not to advance “beyond the cricket ground” for fear of being shot by a Spanish sentry armed with his musket.
