Montserrat have made two previous appearances at the Games, competing in 1994 and 1998.

Since the volcanic crisis in 1997, many athletes have migrated to foreign shores but Montserrat still managed to send six athletes to the 1998 Games.

Montserrat is still recovering from the volcanic eruption that devastated the island in 1997.

Six cricket grounds that were used for an eight-team league up until then were destroyed.

But there are hopes of developing a new ground capable of staging a World Cup game when the tournament is hosted by the West Indies in 2007.
