Sri Lanka took part in their first Games in 1938 and have competed in six in total.

They have notched up 10 medals along the way, three of them gold in sports as diverse as shooting and boxing.

Their team of 66 in 1998 won a silver and a bronze, both successes coming on the track.

Did you know?
Last year the Sri Lankan government decided that no sports should be played on days when there is a full moon.

Based on a Buddhist tradition, the new rule meant that a rest day had to be included in Sri Lanka’s first cricket Test match against Zimbabwe in December 2001.
