India have competed in nine Games since first taking part in 1934, and have collected 153 medals, of which 50 were gold.
In 1998 they sent a team of 89 to Malaysia and picked up 25 medals, including nine golds.
Their strongest performances in recent years have come in shooting and weightlifting.
