India have competed in nine Games since first taking part in 1934, and have collected 153 medals, of which 50 were gold.

In 1998 they sent a team of 89 to Malaysia and picked up 25 medals, including nine golds.

Their strongest performances in recent years have come in shooting and weightlifting.

Did you know?
Shiva Keshavan was India’s sole competitor at the 2002 Winter Olympics and finished 33rd in the luge in Salt Lake City.

He was 28th in 1998 when he went to Nagano as a 16-year-old.
