A drawing depicting hockey, found on a tomb in Egypt, was dated back to 2050BC - although it remains unclear whether the origins of the sport hail from Africa.
The first hockey club - Blackheath - was formed in London in 1861. Since then the team sport has become one of the most widely played in the world.
