High Jump

For almost a century of competition, the "scissors" was the main jump employed by athletes in the high jump.

That all changed in 1968 thanks to American Dick Fosbury, who adopted a completely fresh approach, curling a backwards jump over the bar.

His revolutionary style is the only one used by competitors 34 years on.
