England pip Australia in thriller

Karen Pickering led England to a superb victory in the women's 4x200m freestyle.

The race produced one of the best battles seen at Manchester's Aquatic Centre at this Games, as England fought almost neck-and-neck all the way with fierce rivals Australia.

"I was hurting so much... it was just fantastic"

On the last leg, Pickering was handed the lead by Jo Fargus.

And the 200m individual gold medallist made sure she fought off the challenge of Petria Thomas to touch home in a new Games record of 8:01.39.

Australia took silver in a time of 8:01.91 while Canada came third in 8:04.66.

The England team, made up of Pickering, Fargus, Georgie Lee and 200m individual silver medallist Karen Legg, were understandably delighted with their win.

"I can hardly remember anything about it. I was still hearing the national anthem when I swam," said Pickering.
