Australia have qualified first from Pool D following a 19-12 win over Fiji.

The Australians attacked from the off to open up a 19-0 lead.

And despite Fiji's valiant efforts to pull back the deficit, the gap proved too substantial and the defeat means Fiji will face England in the quarter-finals.

In Saturday's opening encounter, Malaysia and Trinidad and Tobago both broke their scoring ducks.

However, it was Malaysia who also broke their points duck with a 45-7 win over the Caribbean side.

Fiji 73-0 Malaysia

Fiji ran riot in their opening match with Waisale Serevi to the fore.

He orchestrated play from a sweeping role at full-back, adding nine conversions in an 11-try romp.

Rupeni Caubaunibuca scored four, with Vilimoni Delasau crossing for a hat-trick.

Australia 59-0 Trinidad & Tobago

Australia failed to match Fiji's scoring feats but were equally dominant against Trinidad and Tobago.

The Australians, who were roundly booed by a good-humoured crowd, ran out winners at a canter.

Julian Huxley was the star of the show with two tries and seven conversions, with Mark Bartholomeusz weighing in with a hat-trick.

Fiji 75-0 Trinidad & Tobago

Fiji dominated their second match of the night just as they had their first.

It was one-way traffic for all 14 minutes as they took their tally of points to the competition soaring beyond 100.

The prolific Rupeni Caubaunibuca took his tally of tries for the tournament to seven with a hat-trick.

Australia 55-0 Malaysia

Tim Atkinson scored four tries - two in each half - as Pool D's lopsided look continued in another one-sided contest.

In total the Wallabies scored nine tries as they passed 50 points for the second successive game.

Julian Huxley took his personal tally for the tournament past 30 points.

Malaysia 45-7 Trinidad & Tobago

After a scoreless and demoralising first day both teams came into the match looking to break ducks.

And it was Malaysia who were the first to get on the scoreboard, captain Farid Abdul Rahman crossing after a mere 30 seconds.

Five minutes later Trinidad & Tobago's Brendan O'Farrell followed suit but by that stage his team were already 19 points adrift.

Malaysia continued to dominate, scoring a total of eight tries.

Fiji 12-19 Australia

Australia reaped the reward of their positive tactics in the first big match of the sevens tournament.

They attacked from the off, took the game to Fiji and opened the scoring within the first minute through captain Richard Graham.

"We kept hold of the ball really well in the first half," Graham said. "The game plan was to try and deny them as much ball as we could.

"You can see the electric pace that some of them have got.They're beautiful on their feet."

A penalty try, after Viliame Satala played the ball in the tackle on his own line, and a further score from Scott Barton gave the Wallabies a 19-point advantage.

Satala made amends with a length-of-the-pitch effort and although Fiji pushed for further scores, Australia's defence proved too strong.
