Steve Cram

Steve Cram won 1,500m and the 800m gold at the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games in 1986.

Steve has pleasant memories of past Games.

"My first championships was the Commonwealth games in 1978 and I was only 17.

"I was still in the sixth form so it was a huge experience and for that reason the games have always been special to me."

Even though he's no longer competing, Steve can't help but feel a bit of anticipation himself.

"I love being in the commentary box at big events, you always get the best seat in the house, right on the finishing line. It's not quite the same as being on the track but it's a good second best."

Despite enjoying his role in the commentary box, Steve does not like to be in there the whole time.

"I do like to get out and about and have a word with people, because there are always so many rumours and whispers kicking around about what people are going to do, who's got a niggle and so on."
