Laverne Eve of the Bahamas captured the Commonwealth women's javelin title with a throw of 58.46m.
The 37-year-old veteran, a three-time Olympian who first represented her country at the 1988 Olympics, finished ahead of Australia's Cecilia McIntosh (57.42) and England's Kelly Morgan (57.09).
Morgan, who had such high hopes coming into the Games, looked out of sorts throughout the competition and was disappointed to only come away with bronze.
Eve, at 37, had hailed the Manchester event as her last shot at Games gold.
And afterwards she said: "It feels good, really good.
"My training has been going well, I have really been launching them. At one stage I got a bit anxious out there.
"I had to calm myself down and try to build my rhythm."
