Whitehead wins gold
Whitehead was emotional after his victory
England's Adam Whitehead claimed his first gold at a major international meet by winning the 100m breaststroke final. A bronze medallist over 200m four years ago, he recorded a time of 1:01.23 to finish ahead of Canada's Morgan Knabe. Another Englishman, James Gibson, came home in third spot. "To make the team was a bonus and now I'm on top of the world and I can't believe it," said Whitehead. Gibson added: "I was disappointed but if anyone was going to beat me it's got to be Adam, he's one of my mates. "I've still got my record but it's his championship, it's his day." |
