Matam Matam sweeps to gold
Matam Matam celebrates his victory
Cameroon's David Matam Matam took all three golds in the men's 85kg class.
But England's Anthony Arthur, a silver medallist at 94kg four years ago, delighted his home city crowd with two silvers and a bronze. Matam Matam, who won three bronze medals four years ago in Kuala Lumpur, lifted 155kgs in the snatch. The 27-year-old then held his nerve to lift 185kg in the clean-and-jerk on his third attempt. Arthur lifted 150kg to clinch second spot in the snatch. The 29-year-old then finished third in the clean-and-jerk, his overall total of 330kg giving him silver in the combined event. Samoa's Ofisa Ofisa took silver in the clean-and-jerk and bronze overall. Compatriot Niusila Opeloge finished with the bronze medal in the snatch. |
