English duo upset top seeds
Herbert and Baggaley celebrate their semi-final win
English pair Andrew Baggaley and Gareth Herbert reached the men's doubles final where they will meet Welshmen Ryan Jenkins and Adam Robertson. Baggaley and Herbert, who have already won team gold, beat top-seeded Indians Raman Subramanian and Chetan Panduranga Baboor 5-11 13-11 11-9 11-13 11-8. The English pair wasted two match points in the fourth game and then trailed 5-8 in the fifth. But a crucial time-out allowed them to regroup and they then reeled off six successive points to clinch victory. Jenkins and Robertson of Wales, who were controversial winners in their quarter-final, beat Singapore's Yong Jun Duan and Tai Yong Zhang 5-11 11-5 12-10 5-11 11-8 The top two seeded pairs made it through to the women's doubles final. Top-ranked Singaporeans Jun Hong Jing and Jia Wei Li will meet New Zealand sisters Chunli and Karen Li. Jing and Li came from two games down to beat Australians Miao Miao and JianFang Lay 7-11 9-11 11-5 11-7 11-9. The Kiwis beat Paey Fern Sharon Tan and Xue Ling Zhang of Singapore 11-7 11-9 17-15. |
