Adesoji roars to record
Adekunle Adesoji broke the 100m world record for blind competitors twice during the Games
Adesoji broke the 100m record twice during the Games

Nigeria's Adekunle Adesoji smashed his own world record as he stormed to gold in the 100m for blind competitors.

Adejosi, who is blind in his right eye and partially sighted in his left, clocked 10.76 seconds to beat the mark of 10.83secs he had set in qualifying.

The winner, who was guided down the track by local athlete Darren Scott, was given a big ovation by the Manchester crowd.

Scott had to be quick on his feet to keep up with Adejosi, who holds the honour of being the first blind man to run 100m in under 11secs.

Malaysia's Hisham Khaironi took silver with a time of 11.53secs with Rory Field of South Africa third in 11.96secs.

The previous world record of 11.00secs was set in 1986 by Alexander Mokhhir of Russia.

Athletes with disabilities are competing at the Games for the first time, and the medals will be added to the final tally for each nation.
