Wales thrashed by New Zealand
Wales coach Raewyn Henry speaks to her players
Wales were no match for classy New Zealand

Wales 23-81 New Zealand

New Zealand completed their Pool A campaign with a massive win over Wales.

The Silver Ferns, silver medallists in Kuala Lumpur four years ago, were not as ruthless as they were against England, but they still had far too much class for a Welsh team ranked 12th in the world.

Wales stuck to their task doggedly but struggled to break down a watertight New Zealand defence.

Wales made a good start, with goal shooter Jamilla Harris netting three early goals to keep them in contention.

But New Zealand's response was emphatic, with 11 unanswered strikes quickly establishing a 16-3 lead.

New Zealand coach Ruth Aitken made a succession of changes as full-time approached, but that did little to stem the tide of her side's attacks.

The Silver Ferns won the final quarter 22-3, showing a ruthlessness that suggests they will run favourites Australia very close if they meet in the final as expected.

Barbados 46-44 Fiji
Canada 52-49 Sri Lanka

Australia 60-33 Jamaica

Barbados held off a strong comeback by newcomers Fiji to ensure their opponents would finish bottom of Pool B.

Barbados, already beaten by Australia, Jamaica and South Africa, cruised into a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and looked set for a comfortable win.

But Fiji, who had never competed at the Games before, roared back in the third and fourth quarters, with Taraima Rara and Matelita Shaw amassing 19 goals each.

However, Barbados clung onto their advantage to seal the win, 30-goal Cheryl Squires leading her team home.

Australia confirmed their place at the top of Pool B with a win over Jamaica, Sharelle McMahon scoring 23 goals for the world champions

In Pool A, Canada held off the threat of Sri Lanka to win 52-49.
