Henry reaches bowls final
Jeremy Henry won the world outdoor singles title in 2000
Jeremy Henry has reached the final of the men's singles lawn bowls in Manchester. The Ballymoney man is now guaranteed a silver medal at least after defeating New Zealander Mike Kernaghan in Saturday's semi-final. Henry, who carried the Northern Ireland flag in the opening ceremony, recorded a 21-13 victory to go through to Sunday's final. His opponent in the decider will be South African John Donnelly who beat Robert Weale of Wales 21-17 in the other semi-final. Henry had reached the semi-finals by beating Eddie Nkole of Zambia 21-11 earlier on Saturday. There was disappointment, however, for Northern Ireland's Margaret Johnston in the women's singles on Saturday. The 59-year-old from Bellaghy, a Commonwealth gold medal winner in 1994, lost her quarter-final to Marlene Castle of New Zealand by 21-8. |
