Australia claim bronze
Australia 4-3 New Zealand
Australia's women fought off a determined New Zealand side to win the bronze medal play-off on Saturday.
The Hockeyroos were twice pegged back before making the game safe in the second half.
And victory gave the Olympic champions some satisfaction after their surprise defeat to England in the semi-finals.
"We are not used to playing off for third and fourth," said captain Triny Powell.
"To walk away with a medal is something we may not appreciate now, but I am sure at the end of our careers an extra medal in the cabinet is something to look back on."
Australia scored after seven minutes through Carmel Bakurski, but Amanda Christie equalised two minutes later.
Jo Banning then put the favourites back in front before but New Zealand levelled again through a penalty corner from Jaimee Provan.
The second half saw Australia show their class as Ngaire Smith made it 3-2 and Katrina Powell added another in the 44th minute.
Suzie Pearce got one back for the Blacksticks in the closing stages, but it was no more than a consolation goal.
