Men's 10,000m
Kenyan Wilberforce Talel won the event in a Games record of 27 mins 49.39secs.
Men's 100m
English co-favourites Dwain Chambers and Mark Lewis-Francis comfortably reached the semi-finals with second round victories.
Chambers started slowly but won in 10.17secs, while Lewis-Francis could afford a sideways (10.13) look as he reached the line.
Women's 100m
Jamaica's Veronica Campbell won the first heat and will be joined in the semi-finals by the runner-up, Amanda Forrester of England.
Debbie Ferguson (11.23), of the Bahamas, produced the fastest qualifying time.
Men's 400m
World champion Avard Moncur coasted through to the semi-finals, as did Jamaican Michael Blackwood who was content to finished second in his round two run.

South Africa's Frantz Kruger shattered the championship record with his opening throw in qualifying.
Kruger produced a monster effort of 66.25m to beat English thrower Bob Weir's mark by just 17cm shy of two metres.

Australian Jane Jamiseon led with 3,6227 points after four events, the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m.
MEN'S GYMNASTICS
The host nation won their second gold medal when England won the men's gymnastics team title with a total of 162.075 points.
AQUATICS
Canadian Alexandre Despatie won his second diving title by taking the 3m springboard event, with England's Tony Ally once again in the silver position.
Compatriot Claire Carver-Dias won the solo synchronised swimming title, with England's Gayle Adamon taking silver.

Cook Islands bowler Inatio Akaruru collapsed during a first round men's pairs match against Malaysia.
Akaruru, 65, a deputy Prime Minister of the Cook Islands for 10 years until 1999, was treated for fatigue and then taken back to the Athletes' Village for rest.
