Henderson wins dramatic final

The race was stopped for 10 minutes after the crash

Greg Henderson of New Zealand took the gold medal in a dramatic men's points race.

Australian Mark Renshaw earned silver but his team-mate Graeme Brown, who has already won two golds at these Games, was controversially disqualified.

Brown nets double gold

His removal from the event meant that England's Chris Newton claimed a bronze medal.

Brown was pulled out by the race commissaires who ruled that he had caused the crash which led to Welshman Will Wright being helped from the track.

The judges ruled that Brown, who had been one of the favourites for gold, moved out as he hit a curve on lap 74 of the 30km race.

This caused Isle of Man rider Mark Kelly to crash into a barrier at the top of the bank of the track and as he slid back down, he took out Wright and Australia's Peter Dawson.

The race was stopped for around 10 minutes after the crash.

Wright's helmet shattered on impact and there were fears that he had suffered serious injury.

However, he was able to limp into the pits for treatment.

Brown said afterwards that he had "bitterly disappointed".

"I just did my sprint but I didn't know what was happening behind me," he claimed.

Newton chuffed

"I feel sorry for the people involved. I didn't intend to take anyone out.

"This was my main event and I came here to win," he added.

Winner Henderson described his victory as "perfect teamwork".

"We did it four years ago in Kuala Lumpur and I was in the opposite situation that time, helping a team-mate to win," he said.

"This time I was the one to win".

English bronze medallist Newton said he was "chuffed" with his medal.

"When the crash happened it kind of put me off and I couldn't get back into my rhythm," he added.

"I played it the best I could".
