Singles gold for Li Li
Hallam succumbed in the fourth set
Singapore's Li Li beat Tracey Hallam of England in four sets to claim individual gold in the women's singles final. Hallam improved on the bronze she won in Kuala Lumpur four years ago, and looked like she could take gold after levelling the game at one set apiece.
And Hallam refused to be downhearted despite missing out on the top prize. "I was 3-0 up in the third set and I had the match in control but that was the crucial set," said Hallam. "I came here thinking the worst I wanted was bronze, so when the disappointment goes away I'm sure I'll be happy with silver. "It was unbelievable to walk onto the court and hear such a roar from the crowd. "I never thought it would be like that and they spurred me on a lot." |
