Kenyan double in 10,000m
Salina Kosgei
Salina Kosgei kicked for home in the final straight

Salina Kosgei took gold as Kenya dominated the final of the women's 10,000 metres at the Commonwealth Games.

Kosgei produced a stunning burst on the last lap to finish in 31 minutes 27.83 seconds, with compatriot Susan Chepkemei almost five seconds back in second.

Australian Susie Power took the bronze medal with a time of 31:32.20, ahead of the Englsih trio of Liz Yelling, Hayley Yelling and Jo Wilkinson.

The 25-year-old Kosgei beat the previous Games record, set by Scotland's Liz McColgan at the 1986 Edinburgh Games.

The leading three broke away in the early stages and Power tried to surge past her rivals with 600m to go.

But the Kenyan pair quickly hauled her back, and Kosgei had the pace to surge clear 300m from home.

She flew around the final bend to finish 20m clear of Chepkemi.

Fourth-placed Liz Yelling was 250m back, in a time of 31:58.39.
