Brits vaults to glory
Brits made it a golden night for South Africa
Okkert Brits won the Commonwealth men's pole vault title, setting a new Games record of 5.75m and clinching South Africa's third gold medal in track and field events on Tuesday. Brits is a former Commonwealth record holder who in 1995 jumped a massive 6.03m. Paul Burgess of Australia repeated the silver he won four years ago, leaping 5.70m, while Dominic Johnson captured St. Lucia's first medal, taking home bronze with 5.60m. The final was delayed by 90 minutes after a torrential downpour at the City of Manchester Stadium threatened to decimate the field events. |
