Mayock criticises selectors
John Mayock
Mayock is bitterly disappointed
John Mayock has expressed his dismay at the England selectors' decision not to pick him for the Commonwealth Games 1500m.

The silver-medallist in Kuala Lumpur four years ago suffered blistered feet and had to pull out of the English trials a fortnight ago.

But Mayock still believed the selectors would keep open a 1500 metres place for him.

Instead they selected Mayock for the 5,000 metres, subject to himproving his fitness.

The first two across the line at the trials automatically earned Commonwealth places.

Mayock thought he would contest a run-off for the remaining position with third-placed Tom Mayo at the Norwich Union IAAF Grand Prix meeting on Sunday in Sheffield.

He said: "I have to say I am disappointed. At first when I saw Tom was in the 1500, I thought it was a spelling mistake and that one of the selectors was dyslexic.

"I was told not to worry because my past form and record would be taken into consideration,"

"Why they had to make their minds up so quickly, I don't know.

"A run-off between us in Sheffield for the last place would have added another attraction to meeting."

"All I can do now is just get on with my career," said Mayock.
