Region Guide: Scandinavia
Sweden and Norway have been popular destinations for British skiers for more than a decade, and now Finnish Lapland is getting in on the act too.

Cross-country skiing is as popular here as downhill and Scandinavian resorts have been responsible for making telemark skiing trendy again.

Although Are in Sweden and Lillehammer in Norway have hosted the Winter Olympics and World Cup races, most of the skiing is best suited to beginners and intermediates.

Emphasis is on families and safe skiing. In Norway and Finnish Lapland, ski helmets are provided for children up to the age of seven. In Sweden, helmets are given to children up to the age of 11.

Scandinavia is expensive, can be very cold and daylight hours are limited. But floodlight skiing is very popular and the season is a long one.
