Wales' WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe destroyed Armenian Mger Mkrtchyan on 21 February but spent the rest of the year chasing that elusive "career-defining" fight.

Calzaghe almost landed IBF light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson before injury intervened and was still searching for a big-name opponent as the year neared its end.
