Hal Sutton
The recalled Sutton played all five matches in 1999
Despite winning the USPGA Championship in 1983, Sutton had to wait another two years before he made his Ryder Cup bow.

His first appearance was far from fruitful as America suffered one of their heaviest defeats in the competition, losing 161/2-111/2.

In 1987, Sutton only managed a half, in the singles against Gordon Brand Jnr, in a 15-13 reverse, but he returned for the successful campaign in 1999.

He made sure of his place this time around with victory in the 2001 Shell Houston Open and third spot in the Genuity Championship, but has been badly out-of-form since selection.
