The peloton will breathe a united sigh of relief as the race temporarily moves out of the mountains. Some tired legs may yet be made to struggle over the 195km course before the first rest day.

Hippolyte Aucouturier won for the first time in Marseille in the 1903 race.

Stage winner
Jakob Piil held off Fabio Saachi in Marseille in a cat-and-mouse chase for the line.
