Mark Butcher

Mark Butcher
Left-handed batsman
Right-arm medium swing bowler

Born: 23 August 1972
County: Surrey
Test appearances: 50
Debut: v Australia 1997

Butcher has proved that he can play fantastic cricket - although it took him a bit of time.

In and out of the team and then bang - that 173 against Australia at Headingley will live long in the memory.

And that will help him through the tour, he has done it before and can do it again.

But it's not all about fireworks.

First wicket down is crucial and if England are to prosper, Butcher needs to as well.
