Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Dean Saunders is still on the lookout for a new club.
Despite being released by Bardford City at the end of last season, the 37-year-old Wales international has had talks with Crystal Palace and is training with Blackburn Rovers.
Saunders, who claimed an outfield record of 75 caps for Wales, said: "I talked with Steve Bruce (Palace manager) and we have one or two things to sort out.
"It was the first bit of training I had done for a while at Palace, so I need to get match-fit. It will probably take me seven to ten days to get ready to play, to get strength in my legs and not get injured.
"I've had a few offers and a few things to weight up and I have to make sure I make the right decision.
Quality
"In the meantime, I'm training at Blackburn, thanks to Graeme Souness, who I have played for on a number of occasions.
"He has been kind enough to allow me to train closer to where I live and then we will see."
"Dean has been a quality player for many years," admitted Palace manager Bruce.
"He has gone to get himself in shape - if he shows me he is in top condition, he could be useful to us."
Palace have been rebuffed by out-of-favour Middlesbrough centre-half Steve Vickers.
Bruce made a move for 33-year-old Vickers but the player has said he does not want to move his family from the North East.
